Christmas traditions of the Amalfi Coast

Friday, 20 December 2019

When it comes to Amalfi Coast, people usually say that to know its true soul, you should visit this area in wintertime and in particular during the Christmas season. Here, the tradition has been renewed for over a decade, year after year through an unchanged magic.

During these days, even more than in the rest of the year, the whole Coast seen from the sea looks like the nicest and most traditional of the cribs, with its perched houses and lights that make it bright.

Tradition finds a variety of expressions along our Coast bonding all the small villages, main characters of a unique scenery.

Let’s start from Atrani, ready to celebrate the Christmas Eve with the annual event: ‘Calata della stella’ - Falling Star – now in its 140th edition. On December 24th, at the stroke of the midnight, a great comet made up of torches will come down off Mount Aureo and light the small fishing village up, together with fireworks from different points filling of colour the area.

In the town of Amalfi, we will celebrate in music with the seasonal concert held in the Cathedral for the 27th edition of ‘Amalfi sings Christmas’; instead in Agerola will be set up the 32th edition of the ‘Living Crib’, one of the most suggestive Nativity scene of the whole Campania.

And what about the culinary tradition?

Zeppole, struffoli, roccocò, susamielli, mostaccioli, calzoncelli… just to mention some typical pastries!  In fact, in Amalfi Coast, the Christmas season represents a true and proper explosion of flavors, aromas and colors of tradition.

Hence, all you have to do is discovering the magic of Christmas on our Coast, around tiny villages perched on the rock and the scent of local sweets through narrow streets, where everything tells about an ancient and simple Christmas.

That’s all the magic of Christmas season on Amalfi Coast, don’t you think?

We definitely think so!
